How to Film for Freedom: Workshop Schedule

After the successful orientation-discussion held last week, the INDIEpendensya workshop series kicks off with a master class on story development and video production. This will be held on June 30, 2012, 1-5 pm at UP College of Mass Communication Auditorium, Diliman, Quezon City.

The workshop series runs from June 30- July 21, 2012, every Saturday, 1-5 pm at the UP CMC Auditorium unless otherwise noted. These master classes will be facilitated by the following:

STORY DEVELOPMENT | Reuel Molina Aguila (June 30)
Reuel Aguila is a poet, essayist, songwriter and scriptwriter for film, television, and radio. Aguila is a consistent recipient of literary awards, and is a professor at the University of the Philippines.

VIDEO PRODUCTION | Patricia Evangelista (June 30)
Patricia Evangelista is a popular columnist for the Philippine Daily Inquirer and producer for ABS-CBN’s Storyline. She is also known as a human rights advocate.

CINEMATOGRAPHY | Nap Jamir* (July 6 – Friday)
Nap Jamir is a renowned cinematographer/ director who has won several awards from the ADvertising Congress of the Philippines. A photographer in the 1980s, he turned to television and film and is now a veteran in the field.

FILM EDITING | Ricky Orellana (July 14)
Ricky Orellana is a film and sound editor, art director and animator on documentaries and short features. He has been the recipient of several awards by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Film Academy of the Philippines.

DIRECTING | Carlitos Siguion-Reyna (July 21)
Carlos Siguion-Reyna is one of the best known directors in the country. A recipient of 10 Best Director awards from various film industry and critics’ organizations, he is on his second term as president of the Directors Guild of the Philippines.

Workshop facilitator is JL Burgos of Red Ants Productions.

Because we are in this for national sovereignty and freedom, the workshops are open to all participants for FREE — as long as they can commit to making Public Service Advertisements or video advertisements on the theme.

Attendance is required for student filmmakers who will join the competition.

  2. The master classes/ workshops are free and open to all who are willing to create Public Service Announcements or video ads (30 seconds to 3 minutes) regarding national sovereignty. They are not limited to students nor to UP students. The entries will be in the general category. Only the competition (which has prizes) is limited to students.

  3. I am currently working on a TV project quite similar to you advocacy but I am unable to attend your class due to work schedules. Do you have video copies of these classes? if so, I would like to purchase them…

    • Though not required, it is highly encouraged. The workshops are not just for developing production skills, they are also a venue for discussing the themes of the film festival.

      Reminder: Only students are allowed to join to competition.
